Courses:
1) Field-Study Courses:
"Field-study courses for serious herpetologist"
Are you interested in being part of a small group surveying and sampling some of South Africa’s most beautiful animals in a stunning environment?
Despite possessing a high diversity South Africa’s reptile fauna are elusive, and not easy to find. Many are highly cryptic, often nocturnal, and most with a narrow window of activity each day.
The Cape Reptile Institute now conducts weekend courses which run from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. There are two venues; one at the DeHoop Nature Reserve, and the other at Wolverfontein Farm in the Little Karoo. The two venues are very different, DeHoop being coastal fynbos, and dune thicket, and Wolverfontein representing a good example of montane fynbos. Please note that the course is held at one venue at a time.
In addition to sampling the reptile fauna you will be shown how to recognise habitat structure as it pertains to the needs of the various species. Photography is encouraged.
Accommodation is self-catering, but comfortable. There is an upper limit of eight people for each course. The Field-study courses will run from September to May each year. The course is aimed mainly at South Africa Nationals, but overseas visitors are very welcome.
The cost is R1500.00 per person.
